Bioethics Grand Rounds, one hour panels on ethical topics of interest to clinicians, take place at Eastern Maine Medical Center six times a year. Attendees earn continuing medical education credits.
The Bioethics Grand Rounds were initiated several years ago by Rex Garrett, D.Min, Director of Chaplaincy Services at EMMC. Rex serves as planner, coordinator, and moderator for each event.
Panels typically include clinicians, and often guests with special expertise, such as attorneys, religious authorities, state officials, public policy experts, and others.
As clinical ethicist at EMMC, I always sit on the panel and provide ethical background and analysis. Click here for a list of topics we have addressed since I started participating in 2001.
If you’d like to see my notes — sometimes with attached powerpoint presentation — on recent bioethics grand rounds, just click on the Grand Rounds category on the right sidebar for a list.
